Meet Lanara

I’m Lanara and I’m passionate about supporting children, young people and families to feel understood, supported and connected.

Growing up and navigating life can sometimes feel overwhelming, there can be big emotions, friendship challenges, changes at home or school, worries, uncertainty, family stress, or moments when things simply feel like too much. Sometimes young people know exactly what is wrong, while other times they may not have the words to explain what they are feeling.

I believe that having someone alongside you during those times can make all the difference.

My hope is to create a safe, welcoming space where children and young people can feel comfortable being themselves, knowing they will be listened to without judgement.

Why I Do What I Do

At the heart of my work is connection. I believe every person is different, and meaningful support begins with meeting people where they are. I take the time to understand each person’s unique experiences, strengths, personality, interests, needs, emotional capacity and the world around them.

I don’t believe counselling should be a one-size-fits-all experience.

Some young people find it easy to talk, while others may communicate more comfortably through creativity, activities or play. Some may know exactly what they want help with, while others may simply know that something doesn’t feel right. That’s okay, my role is to create a space where each person can feel safe and supported in finding their own way of expressing themselves and exploring what they are experiencing.

Supporting Young People and Families

I take a whole-family approach, recognising that when one person is struggling, it can often affect the people around them too.

Parents can sometimes feel unsure about what their child is experiencing or how best to support them. I enjoy working collaboratively with children, young people and families to build understanding, strengthen relationships and develop practical strategies that can make everyday life feel a little easier.

Sometimes, understanding what sits underneath a behaviour or emotion can be the beginning of meaningful change. There is no judgement about where you are starting from, and you don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out.

My Approach

I bring experience across counselling, early childhood education and community services, giving me a broad understanding of the different stages of life and the experiences that can shape a person’s wellbeing.

I hold a Diploma of Counselling, Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, and Certificates in Community Services, along with additional study in mindfulness and mindset.

No two sessions look exactly the same. I gently adapt my approach to suit each individual and may use conversation, creativity, activities, mindfulness and play to create a relaxed and engaging environment.

Whether someone needs space to talk, help understanding their emotions, support with relationships, or practical tools to navigate life’s challenges, I aim to meet them with warmth, curiosity and compassion.

A Little About Me

Outside of counselling, you’ll most likely find me spending time with animals, something that brings me plenty of comfort, connection and joy. 🐾

I love the simple reminder animals can give us about being present, patient and accepting. Sometimes connection doesn’t need many words; sometimes it simply comes from knowing that someone is there beside you.

That is something I value deeply in my work.

You Don’t Have to Navigate It Alone

Reaching out for support can feel like a big step. You may be a young person feeling overwhelmed, a parent wanting to better understand your child, or a family navigating a challenging time.

You don’t need to know exactly what is wrong, and you don’t need to have all the answers.

My hope is that everyone I work with leaves feeling a little more understood, a little more confident, and reminded that they don’t have to navigate things alone.

Sometimes, having someone alongside you is where things begin to feel a little different.
